Goodyear files a legal malpractice claim against former counsel

Motions in a legal malpractice suit started from a federal personal injury suit involving a law firm and the maker of Goodyear tires will be heard next month.

In 2008, Mike and Darla Green sued Goodyear alleging that defective tires caused a blowout on a motorcycle in 2007. Darla alleged that she suffered brain injuries leading to loss of vision, injuries impairing her voice, and other injuries. Mike injured his right knee and needed treatments requiring morphine and surgery.

Goodyear argued that the couple's weight and worn tires caused the accident. They had the case moved from state to federal court. Goodyear lost the lawsuit and was required to settle with the Greens.

Goodyear has filed a legal malpractice complaint, alleging that the loss was due to the law firm's (that they hired) negligence. They are seeking for over $50,000 per count listed in the lawsuit.

Attorneys from the law firm denied negligence and have filed a counterclaim against Goodyear, contending they Goodyear breached its contract with them and has failed to pay almost $900,000 in outstanding costs.
