With any accident, you should always document the scene and injuries to the best your ability. Do the following:
- Take pictures of the accident scene. If you do not have a camera at the moment, take photos with your cell phone.
- Write down everything that you remember such as your memory of it, the location, date, time and any other factors that you may seem important. Writing this information is important; you may not remember the details precisely later.
- Obtain statements and contact information from any available witnesses.
- File a police report and get a copy of the report.
After the accident, see a doctor about injuries, even if they do not seem serious. It may take days for the injury to manifest and become painful. Having hospital documentation can strengthen your case.
Finally, contact a personal injury attorney to help you file your claim and to obtain the compensation you are entitled to. There will be certain procedures and deadlines that you must follow to file your claim.
